You guys. If you haven't been to the LA Fabric District, you need to go to Southwest.com right now and book a flight to LA.
My mom and I explored the district a while back, and it was a-mazing. I felt like I had died and gone to heaven. There were over 200 stores that carried fabric wholesale and it is open to the public. I literally daydream about all of the fabrics I wish I would've bought to this day.
We only had a few hours to spend there till my flight, so we were only able to hit up a few stores. If I had it my way, I'd just set up camp right there on the street for about a week.
You can check out this guide to the LA Fabric District as well, from a well seasoned veteran. Sadly, I saw this after my trip and didn't have her tips to guide me.
This was the 1st place we went to. It was on the 3rd floor of a big warehouse. There were tons of cardboard boxes full of fabric, and everything there was $2 a POUND.
yes. a pound.
B loved it too. He was such a trouper. It was 500 degrees in the Caribbean seas, and he was suuuper sweaty. But it wasn't too bad trying to maneuver a stroller around.
Am I the only one drooling here?
oh, and if you are in the market for trims.....
BAM!
I got over the cramped dirty sidewalks and ghetto area in a heartbeat. One thing both Mom and I noticed, was that everyone was SO nice. The workers there were very helpful in all the stores, and so were the other shoppers. One guy saw me trying to push the stroller up an almost vertical driveway to get to our car, and he full blown escorted us around the corner to an elevator (an elevator that looked like there would be a dead person lying in it when the doors opened, but an elevator none the less).
Just to give you an idea of how cheap this place was, this minky fabric was only $6 per yard on the bolt. It's usually about $15 a yard for fabric that is only 32" wide.
Wouldn't these make adorable shower curtains?
Here were my goods (forgive the blurry picture). I got probably 10 yards of fabric and spent a grand total of $12. HEAVEN.
On a sidenote, it was compete and utter h-e-double hockey sticks trying to get to LAX from the district. It was only about 20 min away, but the freeways are on crack and my mom and I couldn't find our way out of a paper bag. I wanted to dropkick our navigation system by the end of it, but I made the flight.
p.s. Check back tomorrow to see one of the things I created with one of the fabrics that I got.
