I've had a handful of requests for a tutorial on how I curl my hair. The method that I use is different than a lot of tutorials I have seen. Hopefully I make some kind of sense and don't sound like a rambling idiot....
THIS is the curling iron I use.
Speaking of hair, mine is falling out! This post baby hair follicle detachment thing has got to stop. You could seriously make a wig out of the fistfuls of hair I pull out on a daily basis!
Now lets all not wash our hair for 5 straight days.
** dead serious. Garrett just said "I can't do anything without getting your hair all over myself!" Told you.
You have seriously gorgeous hair. Thanks for the tutorial!
ReplyDeleteCreamy
Gorgeous hair! Fun to see you on video. Total natural girl!
ReplyDeleteso if you only wash your hair every 5 days or so, how do you get your hair to look so great, and not at all greasy looking? i know you said baby powder, but do you use dry shampoo or what else do you use?
ReplyDeletelmld.org
Hi Aimee! I use Suave dry shampoo every so often, but I just it more for the volume and texture that it gives my hair. I don't think it soaks up the oil quite like baby powder. Thanks for reading!
DeleteI like using baby powder over dry shampoo. I find dry shampoo makes it more dirty, more quickly later on. =)
Deletemy hair is still falling out by the fistful and it's been 7 months.... time to stop. Thanks for the tutorial! I love you hair :)
ReplyDeleteIt's great you have thick hair already! At least you had 'some' to lose! LOL. Thanks for posting this DIY you do have amazing hair!!! xoxo A-
ReplyDeleteI have a 3 month old and my hair is falling out too! My husband was complaining yesterday that my hair is everywhere and in everything. You mentioned that you use dry shampoo sometimes, which I have tried as well. I find that after a couple days my hair just feels gross. Do you have any suggestions for pulling it up to keep it clean longer? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteLove it! I'm extremely jealous of your pretty hair :-)

Dainty and Decadent
It's true! I'm 4 months post partum and it's coming out in chunks. I might go bald.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the video, I love your hair!! I didn't even know curling irons could spin around like that, neat! My youngest is 3 1/2 and my hair is still falling out, crazy!
ReplyDeleteThis is exactly how I do my hair. I even use the same marcel iron. It is unusual to find other people that use a marcel rather than a traditional curling iron. Sorry about the hair loss too. My hair is super thick so when it started falling out it was crazy how much I found around the house.
ReplyDeleteI thought your beach waves were of natural origin))) I guess I read somewhere in your blog that your hair is curly. I've never seen such a curling iron, it looks like a monster, lol. But I really liked the way you do it. The best part of it is that it takes from 5 to 6 minutes. Amazing! My hair is too short for that kind of waves unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteGreat tutorial! Your hair looks wonderful. I usually workout every morning and wash my hair every day. Do you think that baby powder would work with fixing sweaty hair? Is that gross that I even asked that? I know you got into running after Bradley was born, so I was hoping you might have insight into this.
ReplyDeleteBaby powder totally helps sweaty hair! Also, try blow drying it when it is all nasty and wet, that helps sometimes. I usually just stick it in a high bun when it is gross and I don't have time to wash it. Hope that helps Hillary!
DeleteThank you so much for doing this!!! Crazy--I was actually thinking just this morning that I wanted to email you to see how you get your curls like that (I definitely need a change in my hairstyle!)--so I was SO excited to see this post!! And my hair STILL falls out a ton...and it's been 16 months. :) Maybe I'll be bald before my next baby...
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Holly! Your hair is so gorgeous you don't need a change!!
DeleteMy husband once said that Mama hair was what held our family together. ; )
ReplyDeleteYou continue to be my idol and keep convincing me that we need to live closer together. I'll watch your boys in exchange for you doing my hair and making me clothes, ok?! :) Maybe someday I'll discover that your talents didn't all come from your mom's side of the family. Love ya, cousin!
ReplyDeleteI have six kiddos and after the second one I was taking a nutrition class at BYU and the teacher said it was a vitamin deficiency and to eat more carrots.... a half a cup every other day would help. It worked for me ;) ...my hubby still gets a little bugged with all of the hair EVERYWHERE ....vacuum bar... drains.... but seriously, he's got three beautiful daughters with long hair and a super hot wife with long hair... ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your suggestion! I'm totally trying that!
DeleteKeep taking those pre-natal vitamins. I'm 6 weeks postpartum and haven't had a ton of hair loss like I did with my son.
ReplyDeleteQuestion: How do you straighten your hair? I have wavy hair and I don't have the time to straighten it after I shower I just let it air dry but then it gets soo frizzy. Any tips? Thanks!!
Thanks for your suggestion! I totally stopped taking my pre-natals and started again after I saw your comment!
DeleteI blow dry my whole hair right after washing it, and straighten it all completley. It is so much easier to get everything straight right after drying it.
This is excellent! I can't wait to try this out. Thanks for posting. =)
ReplyDeleteYour hair is unbelievably gorgeous (obviously so are you).
ReplyDeleteI had a postpartum breakdown and cut my hair... and permed it! Worst decision ever. I've learned to never make big decisions right after having a baby... My hair would be almost as long as yours by now, and I wouldn't be afraid of it falling out every time I need to have it colored!!
So jealous of your hair- mine would hold that curl for about .5 seconds and then go limp. Stunning!

I really love this post! Sooo trendy! If you have a minute, please check out my blog and follow me if you haven't yet. I'll appreciate it so much! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteBlow A Rainbow
Thanks for the tutorial! You're hair is seriously gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteSincerely, Kiera
I hear you on the hair loss. My kiddo is 3.5 months old and it's just crazy!
ReplyDeleteLove it! I do a similar technique and people always think I'm crazy when I'm like, 'Ya, it's day two or three...' I need to get some baby powder to add to my regime since I don't think the dry shampoo quite cuts it. :) Random question: I've got my hair to the length I want it now but can't decide how to cut it--do you have lots of layers all around or just the ones I can see in the front? I definitely need more body to my hair but want to keep it long!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lisa! I have really long layers in the back, and more of a little bit of feathering in the front to keep it from getting too long and heavy. Hope that helps!
DeleteThanks Leanne. It sure does help!
DeleteSo I'm assuming that you still shower more than once every four or five days. Do you get your hair wet and not wash it? Or do you cover your hair with a shower cap to keep it dry? I have curly hair and usually wear a shower cap when I don't want to wash it, but I was wondering if you still get your hair wet even when not washing it.
ReplyDeleteYes, I do shower everyday....for the most part :) When I'm not washing it I'll throw it up in a high bun and wear a headband to keep the fly-aways dry. I don't get it wet. Hope that helps!
DeleteFirst off -- I love reading your blog! I love everything you sew!! Secondly -- thanks for the hair tutorial! My hair is long, and I've never conquered how to curl the higher parts of my hair... so my ends are usually just curled. But once my kids were in bed tonight, I practiced your technique -- and was totally successful, in getting the look I wanted! Lol hopefully my curls will stand up, next to the Georgia humidity! xP
ReplyDeleteAlso -- I was JUST talking to a friend, about baby powder in hair. We had both tried it, in the past, and ended up looking like grandmas! But you use way less than I did, when I tried. So I'll have to try again!
And lastly - lastly... My daughter just turned 3 months yesterday. My hair is EVERYWHERE!! My husband commented on it last week, and I hadn't realized it was all over the house, and not just in my brush, or on my clothes. He even ended up with a hair in his lunch... And I just about died when he told me! Blah!!!! xP
I'm so glad the tutorial worked for you Sara! And that his hilarious about your hair being in his lunch. SICK. But I can totally see that happening to me too!
DeleteLoved this, Leanne! Thank you!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the fun how-to! Definitely going to try it out.
ReplyDeleteHi, my name is Shannon and I really loved your tutorial and your hair. I had a similar problem with my hair failing out. I didn't have a baby... but nonetheless my hair started failing out in fistfuls when I did the hcg diet.(Which makes your body simulate pregnancy. Kind of dumb I know.) I lost all but a quarter of my hair after I did that diet. I started taking a Vitamin d3 supplement everyday, along with a sea kelp supplement. I also washed my hair with balding shampoo(paranoid I know)and that helped a lot. Good luck with everything! Your hair is gorgeous by the way! Thanks for the fun how to!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your tips Shannon! I'll have to try them!
DeleteGreat tutorial, I've never seen a curling iron like that! I was actually wondering how you keep your hair somewhat clean if you exercise in between washes? I sweat like a pig when I work out, hott--I know, and I have to wash my hair afterwards because it just gets stiff and salty and nasty. I know dirty hair holds do's better, but I never know how girls do it when they exercise. You tips would be much appreciated! Thanks so much!

Sometimes you hair is just so gross after working out that it needs to be washed. But many times it can be salvaged. Sometimes I blow dry it after working out and that seams to help. Then I'll do baby powder and stick it up in a high bun. Hope that helps!
DeleteThat does, thanks so much! My hair has been so much healthier feeling and goes into styles so much better since I haven't been washing it everyday. The most I can handle is 3 days before I feel homeless. :) I'll try the blowdry thing and the baby powder. I'm sure it'll make my hair smell delicious too, you'll hardly be able to tell how dirty it really is! haha
DeleteI love this! I will definitely have to try this out. Thanks for the tutorial :)

Leanne, thank you so much for this tutorial!!! I never watch video tutorials but your GORGEOUS hair enticed me to watch it, and I'm so glad I did! I've never been able to get my hair like this with a curling iron--- I always end up with ringlets. But I tried this yesterday and I'm still rocking my Victoria's Secret waves today! I even managed to do it with my regular Hot Tools iron. [And I LOVE your straight then curly technique and how you make one wash go so long: I try to do that too, so much better for your hair!] Thanks again pretty mama!
ReplyDeleteThat is so great Anya! I'm so glad that it worked for you!!
DeleteMy hair never holds any curl...maybe I'll have to try it this way! You have great hair, even if it is falling out (:
ReplyDeleteThis makes me giggle. I also have long hair and am constantly picking it off of stuff. My sister on the other hand has long hair and then three girls to help in the hair shedding department. I can only imagine what vacuuming is like for them.
ReplyDeleteLove it! I'm extremely jealous of your pretty hair :-)

Thank you for this! Your hair always looks absolutely gorgeous. My hair type is similar and I would love if you did a blow dry tutorial, too!

ReplyDeleteOf course, there are many decisions you’re going to have to make when you’re planning a trip or even if you’re an experienced traveler.
